Kokatha Country is a commissioned artwork for BHP & Compass Group highlighting the distinctive landscape of the South Australian desert, community spirit & sustainability.
The diverse range of deep earthy-toned ‘U’ (person sitting) symbols represent multiculturalism, inclusivity, diversity & the multitude of nationalities who work together within the Olympic Dam community.
The varying hues of blue & green ‘U’ symbols denote the leader figures & mentors at the Olympic Dam Village while the brown & orange ‘U’ symbols represent the workforce, each with their tools by their sides.
These ‘U’ symbols also feature markings to differentiate between genders, bringing focus to BHP’s mission for half of its workforce to be female by 2025.
The scorched earth-toned dots depict the red & brown soils and arid plains found blanketing the environment.
The bright & sunny yellows representing the spiritual and cultural connection I have with Kokatha Country.
The blue and green medicine leaves symbolise the skies, the lush plant life & foliage and the creeks & lakes surrounding the region.
The white lines represent the ridges of the mountainous terrain and every team member’s journey toward each other, working together as one to maintain resources for a better environment and a more sustainable community.
