This commissioned painting was created for a buyer in Kapunda who really liked the asymetry, movement and colours of “Migration” especially how the white lifts the artwork and gives it life and depth.
This buyer was looking for something tranquil so not too busy, she loved the symbols in “Summer” but the lack of them in “Migration” is why she was drawn to it…
“The ocean colours and form are peaceful and meditative as is the contrast of the deep blues of the water and the white of the foam.”
This buyer also wanted the whales to be rising to breach or sounding to sing. She already knew of the symbols depicting Kangaroo & Emu tracks but wasn’t quite sure about the other symbolism I had used. Upon explaining that this other symbol depicts two women sitting with digging sticks and wooden bowl’s collecting food, our buyer was elated stating “A good symbol for my late mother and me. A nice moment of rememberance each time I pass by the painting”.
Here is the finished piece.
