This commissioned artwork is a tribute to Kath, recognising her incredible contribution to Arid Recovery and Kokatha Country over the past eight years. The painting celebrates the tireless work done to protect and reintroduce native species, care for the land, and foster a deeper connection between the community and the environment.
The vibrant red tones reflect the arid plains of Roxby Downs, while the metallic bronze tracks of the Bandicoot, Bettong, Bilby, and Quoll weave through the piece, symbolising the native animals reintroduced under Kath’s leadership. Human footprints intermingle, a reminder of the connection between people and Country and the shared responsibility to care for it.
Meeting circles and campfires represent the collaborative efforts between Kokatha and Arid Recovery, highlighting the shared knowledge, training, and partnerships that have made such a profound impact. Green dots are scattered throughout, representing the enduring plant life and the nurturing of Kokatha Country’s ecosystems.
