This painting honours the way Aboriginal people have navigated and understood the world for tens of thousands of years, by reading the stars above and the waters below.
The central symbol represents deep knowledge passed down through generations, shared by firelight around the campfire. Journey lines, dot work and flowing patterns reflect rivers, tides and the movement of water across Country. The concentric circles represent stars and the night sky, a map of constellations used for direction, ceremony and seasonal change.
Sandy tones represent shores, calming blues reflect the sky and waters while whites represent our ancestor’s guiding light.
