Alan who is a Lead for the City of Adelaide sent me a message after following my work on LinkedIn to let me know that he and his wife, Kylie are loving my beautiful art and they really wanted me to create a custom painting for their home that speaks to extended family meetings and many generations from many places.
Alan & Kylie’s most important and special place is Corny Point on the Yorke Peninsula and they said some representation of that bit of coast would be awesome!
They said they really love the symbols I use for groups, pathways and meeting places. Coastal water & rivers feature in their family traditions and history so I have worked on including this within the design using paints to match their preferred colour scheme of earthy/muted tones.
This commissioned painting titled ‘Family History’ is a one-of-a-kind representation crafted exclusively for Alan & Kylie. At its heart, a campfire radiates warmth akin to cherished gatherings and symbolises the core of familial connection and shared stories.
Various shades of traditional symbolism in browns encircle the central imagery, representing the diverse tapestry of family and friends who have enriched their lives. The outer rim features a mesmerising wave of coastal blue dots, representing cherished memories and favourite moments shared by Alan & Kylie, especially at Corny Point.
Embedded within the intricate layers are meaningful elements such as kangaroo, emu, and people’s footprints, subtly blended into the background symbolising life, journey & shared experiences.
Through this evocative artwork, Alan and Kylie’s ‘Family History’ becomes a living testament, celebrating the richness of their past and the promise of generations yet to come.
